Janet tops Billboard 200 with UNBREAKABLE

7 years, 7 months and 7 days after her last record, Janet Jackson scored her 7th #1 album on the Billboard 200. Unbreakable debuted at the top with 116,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The number is composed by sales, 109 thousand, and the streaming equivalent of sales, 7 thousand. According to the new methodology used by the magazine, effective since late 2014, each 1.500 streams in services such as Spotify or Deezer compute as a sale. Ten separate sales of album tracks also compute as an album sale.

Despite minimal promo, Jackson’s name, her seclusion from the music business and her tour were enough to propel her to the #1 spot. With Unbreakable, Janet becomes the second woman to have albums on the top position for four consecutive decades (80’s through 10’s), only behind Barbra Streisand, with 6 decades on her resume. Jackson also becomes the second black artist in #1 albums, behind Jay-Z with 13.

The next concert from the Unbreakable World Tour follows on Tuesday, the 13th

, in San Francisco, CA, and Janet will probably not promote on the TV or radio. We’re hoping a music video will be release and help second week sales!
