The birth of Janet Jackson’s firstborn caught everyone by surprise this Tuesday, the 3rd. Many believed the singer, 50, had already delivered the baby mid-November, but choosing to keep it on the low, like her personal life is usually kept.
The announcement came from People Magazine, the source that had been covering the pregnancy and was the first outlet to publish a picture of Janet with a baby bump.
“Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world,” – her representatives told People.
North American magazines were not the only ones to comment on the newborn. Global and local news outlets and celebrities broke the news, and Janet’s name is still among the top searches on the internet. Besides Janet’s celebrity status, her pregnancy at age 50 also made a splash.
In Brazil, Rede Globo and Record, the two largest networks, aired news pieces talking about Jackson and had professionals in the field detailing the risks for the mother and the viability of a pregnancy after age 40 nowadays.

People magazine also publish a note about the baby’s name. According to website Nameberry.com, Eissa (pronounced: EYE-sa / different spellings: Isa, Issa or Essa) is an Arabic name and its meaning is equivalent to Jesus. ‘Savior’ or ‘The Lord is Salvation’ are accepted translations for the name. It can be said that Eissa is the Islamic version for Jesus. The Christian Messiah – considered a prophet in Islam – is called differently in different cultures and regions, e.g. Yeshua and Joshua.
Many rumors lead us to believe Janet would pay homage to her brother, the late singer Michael Jackson. That turned out not to be true, but Michael’s middle name was Joseph, after his father and Jesus’s father. That also makes us think of that time when Janet’s best friend Gil Duldulao said he was with “Mother Mary”… Could he be referring to Eissa’s mommy?
